Oakland University Students Spend Spring Break Volunteering At Victory Living Programs

For the third year, students from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, are spending their spring break volunteering with Victory Living’s Adult Day Training (ADT)/Community Inclusion Program.

During their week-long stay in Fort Lauderdale, the students assisted clients in the ADT/Community Inclusion Program with a multitude of skill building activities and projects. From leading learning games such as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, to assisting with caring for the community garden and participating in health and wellness activities, the student volunteers also prepared lunch alongside the program participants.

The students who participate, sign up to volunteer through a student-led nonprofit organization called Alternative Spring Break, that connects students with various volunteer opportunities all across the country. Brianna, a senior at Oakland University, has been a member of Alternative Spring Break for four years, and put Victory Living Programs at the top of her list for her final spring break trip.

“I had pretty high expectations just based on what my friends had told me and this experience has exceeded way beyond even my wildest imagination,” said Brianna. “The program participants are amazing people; they’re so kind. Every day when we come in they are really excited to see us.”

The entire Victory Living Programs family is grateful to the Oakland University student volunteers for spending their spring break week with our clients and staff. We hope to see more students from Oakland University visit again next year!
